Navsari Travel Guide

Navsari is a city and municipal corporation headquarters of Navsari district of Gujarat, India. And a 40 km south of Surat. The Navsari administrative district is named after it.



History


Navsari was originally known as "Navu Sari" (English: "New Sari"), for the city in Persia, Sari, Iran, from where Parsis migrated.

Navsari is also the birth place of Jamsetji Tata, the founder of what would later become the Tata Group of companies; he is regarded as the "father of Indian industry"

Dadabhai Navroji, known as the "Grand Old Man of India," was born in Navsari. He was an elected Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom between 1892 and 1895, and the first Asian to be a British MP.
