Nitin Gadkari: FASTag to Become a Multi-Service Digital Platform, Not Just for Tolls

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that FASTag, currently used primarily for toll collection, will be transformed into a multi-service digital platform. Under this plan, FASTag will enable services such as parking payments, fuel purchases, e-challan payments, and other digital transactions across highways, smart cities, and urban infrastructure. The move aims to streamline India’s digital payment ecosystem and reduce physical cash dependency.

Gadkari emphasized that FASTag will no longer remain limited to toll booths but will serve as a unified digital wallet for various transport and mobility-related services. This expansion will be implemented by NHAI and NPCI, integrating more stakeholders and service providers. The initiative supports India’s Digital India vision and contributes to a more efficient transportation ecosystem, reducing congestion and wait times. The enhanced FASTag will benefit millions of users and pave the way for intelligent mobility solutions and contactless infrastructure.
